healing - Aisha al-Tarawneh

hands deep in a man's chest, we kneel

upon dewed grass,

heartbeat licking at our fingertips.

sit back on haunches and lick despair off

shaking hands. we stumble backwards against spiralling

relief: feed the hollow with fear;

drugged blood, thrumming ears, bury

a mangled being beneath a mask,

fleshed, glass smiles.

we break a broken ribcage back into place and

stitch a gaping wound, needle stained,

tip dulled against congealing pain.

Aisha Al-Tarawneh is an eighteen-year-old from Denmark and Jordan. She enjoys anything space related and absolutely despises banana milk.
