Dandelion Curse
Connie Taylor
They curse my yellow flowers
for crowding out the delicate
forget-me-not’s blue blooms.
They send a jinx to my deep roots
clinging to soil, embedded
deeply, tips growing anew.
They place a hex on my wide leaves
as I protect myself smothering
plants that dare approach.
They wish a pox on my seed heads
covered with my winged children
as they scatter in the wind.
I cast a spell on all their kind
while the bees gather
my pollen for sweet honey.
Connie Taylor left California to commercial fish in Alaska. She fished salmon, crab and shrimp for twenty years before becoming a printer and art gallery owner. Later she worked as a paralegal, auctioneer and bookkeeping consultant. Now she’s a photographer, webmaster, author, publisher, creator and jack-of-all-trades. She still eats fish.
