Two Pieces

Katrina Lemaire

Buzz in Our Bones

it started in a silk cocoon

heart-pitted, exoskeletal bodies

ready to hatch

wings on wings

eyelashes fluttering

asking between sheets

if skies have called to rain

sipping eachothers marrow

between kisses

congealed honeydew & strawberry chapstick

curled in amber sun chrysalis

tender bellied guts worming

translucent skin papering,

filmy drool spilt on the comforter

feather antennae ears

fingers buzzing over

as teeth cut into light

laughing–

bones buzzing under a ceiling of basket willow trees.

i am the rot you forgot

snakes tangle in my throat

the meat of my words

eaten by carrion beetles–

the kind that linger on deadwood

& dawsonia covered deer antlers

these ghostly guts were an offering

to flowering stalk made of starry sky faunas,

mulberry wishes, & pulpy headed-fruit trees

death gives the taste of many forgets

you planted me in your dark

nestled in a bed of fly agaric mushrooms &

forest ants

waiting for us to bloom again

now webbed in worms & algae foam–you see me

oh, how you screamed &

all of our bodies screamed back
