Welcome to the Supernatural
Harley Bruyere
Much like the song Welcome to the Jungle, the supernatural has always felt like a place that had everything I want and able to find what I need within it. As a child I was first fully introduced to the supernatural by my dad. Six years old and obsessed. It started with a late night, about 10 o'clock on a Friday. One episode of the show and it quickly became a show that I look forward to watching even to this day as they are still putting out new episodes almost every week.
Not many people realize how many things that happen around them is actually part of the supernatural. It's not just the thoughts of ghost, ghouls, werewolves, vampires, etc. It's also the way the wind curls around us as we walk, the sounds at night when it just you in the middle of a clearing, even though this isn't necessarily what the exact definition means, but it always feels other worldly to be in the mix of all of this.
As I've gotten older I have noticed more and more things that not others would. I seem to be more drawn to the supernatural more than ever. I have a specific place that I always desire to go, doesn't matter if it's rain or shine, day or night. Gurnsey Hollow the most haunted place I've been to. I wonder how many more stories I will have from this place as I continue in my life. So far there are only a few.
Before getting ahead of myself I should probably explain what this place is. If you aren't from the Randolph, Steamburg, Coldspring, or almost anywhere in Cattaraugus County, you probably haven't heard of this place. If you've heard of it you might know what kind of things were experienced. This is a cemetery in the middle of nowhere. If you don't have someone with you that knows exactly where the cemetery is you will not find it even with GPS it can be hard. This cemetery has a long history even though it is just a small cemetery of no more than roughly 50 graves at most.
The history is sad but when asking about it there are many different versions you'll get. There seems to be one story specifically that everyone seems to agree, the little girl. The little girl of the 1800s.
The little girl who none understood. The little girl stoned for mental disabilities. Buried in the same clearing she was stoned. After being chased through the very woods around the cemetery, she was cornered in this clearing and unfortunately met her demise. They say that she appeared when the townspeople came to apologize to her headstone, she was there giggling and scaring them away to get her rest that she was due because of them.
It'll be this story that continues my love as I will continuously be pulled back to this place that I can try and understand the truth. It is this story that starts my own experiences. However, those stories are for another time.
Harley Bruyere loves anything spooky or Halloween-related - count her in.
