Two Pieces

Madisen Bellon

Garden of Lucifer

The morning sun shines

upon flower hoards

at dawn-break

and gazes upon

this garden of Lucifer

rows of red roses

glistening, scarlet-kissed

blushing, sweet—

a host of red poppies

radiating, blood-kissed

infernal, damning—

packs of burgundy peonies

velvet, flame-kissed

flushed, luscious—

blood-wet petals

atop thin stems

collected, one

hell of a bouquet

Eulampis Jugularis

Eulampis

Jugularis

Purple-throated

hummingbird

hovers

hums

chirps

    tongue searching

for something to suck

fluttering above

    scarlet monarda

    purple beebalm

    electric purple

    crown flower

it

sticks

out

its

tongue

to

suck

up mouthfuls

of balm nectar

so sweet

still starving

to be fulfilled
